Hospitality giant Accor has released a major new sustainability report detailing how the company’s 4,200 hotels impact the environment, potentially paving the way for the hotel chain to impose new green procurement criteria on some of its suppliers.
In what is being hailed as an industry first, Accor worked with consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to produce the 30 page report analysing the environmental impact of both the hotel’s direct activities and its global supply chain.
The report revealed that the company’s efforts to curb its environmental impacts have enjoyed success over recent years, reducing water consumption per rented room by 12 per cent between 2006 and 2010 and cutting energy use per available room by 5.5 per cent over the same period.
