Automotive supplierґs plants gain zero landfill statusInternational Automotive Components Group diverted from landfills 36 million pounds of material during the first year of an environmental initiative at its 26 U.S. manufacturing facilities.

IAC, last year, began a project to reduce the amount of material sent to landfills to zero. By the first quarter of 2011, locations in Greenville, S.C., Albemarle, N.C., and Old Fort, N.C, achieved zero landfill from manufacturing, the company said. Other locations reduced the amount of material being sent to landfills by 50% to 80%.

“With these efforts, IAC has fostered a culture of social and environmental responsibility at all of our facilities in the U.S.,” said Maurice Sessel, senior vice president of product engineering, in a statement. “These initiatives reinforce our alignment with and commitment to customers as we develop new materials to help them with their environmental initiatives as well.”

IAC is a global supplier of automotive components and systems. The company, based in Luxembourg, has 76 manufacturing locations in 16 countries.
