Tire RecyclingCompanies in north-central Pennsylvania are looking to build what may be the region’s first tire-powered energy generator, The Daily Item reported.

The White Deer Energy Project, which will be situated next to National Gypsum Co.’s existing West Milton, Pa., building, would use shredded tires to power its steam and electricity production, the newspaper said.

Partnering with National Gypsum on the project are En-Tire Logistics, Emanuel Tire Co. and All4 Inc. En-Tire would own and operate the plant and is contracted to supply about 95% of the steam produced to the National Gypsum Milton facility, the newspaper said.

The companies are seeking the project’s approval and support from local and state officials, the newspaper said, and also will require approvals from the federal EPA and the state Department of Environmental Protection.
